How do you see yourself, and how would you like to be seen?
I am just a normal person who has set out to accomplish all that life has to offer, good and bad. I would like to be seen as a relatable soul that did my part to make the world a better place.
How do you define your purpose in life?
My purpose is to spread compassion and love to each individual I come in contact with in this journey we call life.
What are three events that helped to shape your life?
Three events that shaped my life include being put out of my mother's house at the age of 16 years old. As I continue to grow in wisdom, I consider this event as my driving factor to make something of myself regardless of the struggle. Another event that shaped my life was graduating from college 5 months pregnant. This event confirmed that I can accomplish difficult tasks despike any situation. Finally, my father's and brother's death assisted in shaping my life. Their deaths made me reevaluate my life. I questioned who I really was in this world and if I was really living life without regrets. I have changed my focus a little bit and have allowed myself to love me.
What woman inspires you and why?
Women in general inspire me, especially women of color. I think about the odds being stacked against us and how we continued to rise to the occasion with excellence.
Are there any assumptions about women that you would like to change? Why?
The idea that women are in constant competition with one another. I don't believe this to be true, we support and uplift our sistas. It's enough out here for us all to win.
What do you believe will be the biggest challenge for the generation of women behind you?
Complacency, we have progressed in so many ways as women, however we need to continue to move forward. It's easy to become stagnant when you don't know what you don't know. If I could offer any encouragement to the next generation I'd say embrace your uniqueness, siege opportunities, and continue to break barriers.
